Regional Maritime Information Fusion
Centre (RMIFC)

The RMIFC is a regional centre operating 24/7. At the national level, the RMIFC adopts an inter-ministerial approach by involving representatives of the various national ministries working in the maritime field; while at the regional and possibly international level, it advocates cooperation between member states through the participation of regional and international liaison officers within the centre.

National Level

The CRFIM, in its national vocation, adopts an inter-ministerial approach. All relevant ministries and organizations are required to draft procedure manuals called ‘SOPs’ which will govern the nature and form of information exchanges and cooperation with the CRFIM.

These state departments at the national level work with the CFIM on a permanent basis to feed the national database regarding their maritime affairs. These departments also sign a Memorandum of Understanding for the exchange and sharing of data with the CFIM and, under the terms of which, a permanent or non-permanent agent is seconded to the CFIM to work with the latter’s permanent staff.

In addition, a National Liaison Officer liaises between the CFIM and its ministerial department for the needs required by CFIM products. These officers nevertheless remain under the hierarchical subordination of their departments. Day-to-day operations within the CFIM are carried out by the permanent staff made available to the CFIM.
